FAQs

What is communication coaching and how does it work?

Communication coaching is a way to learn all of those “soft skills” that allows you to feel and project authentic confidence in high-stakes situations and everyday communications. I work with you in three ways:

  1. I teach you how to rewrite your “mindset,” that inner voice that is keeping you feeling like an imposter.

  2. I teach you body language and vocal techniques to help you to feel and project confidence and authority in high stakes situations.

  3. I teach you how to prepare and structure your content so that you are able to clearly know the path ahead for any high-stakes meeting, conversation, or presentation.

Not sure how learning about body language might help you? Read this article to understand how shifting your body language will help you have a successful interview and land the position.

How are you different from other public speaking coaches?

I have found that clients don't become 'good speakers' until they've first found out who they are, how they think, and what’s getting in their way. From this foundation of authentically knowing yourself and your style, then you’re able to make meaningful strides towards becoming a better public speaker.

We start with conversation, analysis, and exploratory practices to help you to understand you and help you to feel more comfortable in your own skin. Then, I teach you speaking skills that are tailored to your unique strengths and areas of growth so that you can step into your power as a great communicator.

There is no 'right way' to become a better speaker. Any cookie cutter approach will not work for those truly needing change. That’s why my coaching feels more like a tailored training session. Together, we find the way that works for you.

Should I do Toastmasters?

Toastmasters is a great addition to our work together. They aren’t able to work with you in confidence, do a deep dive analysis of you and why you are reacting to an audience the way that you are. A tailored approach gives you that deep personal knowledge about yourself.

Toastmasters is a great way to practice what you've learned in our coaching sessions!

I need to give a toast, talk, presentation. Can you help me write it?

Yes, I can work with you both on authentic content and powerful delivery. Read an article I’ve written to help you with tackling fear as you prepare for an upcoming presentation.

How many sessions will it take for me to start feeling results and to achieve my goals?

You will feel results after our first session. Most goals can be achieved with focused work and dedicated practice within four sessions and over the span of three months.

I work in packages. Here’s what a typical package looks like:

  1. 90 minute analysis of your current communication style

  2. Four, 60 minute follow up sessions including techniques, role play, and homework.

  3. Followup emails after every session charting your progress and giving you a reference for each of your techniques.

After going through my training program you will know what to DO to bring your public speaking to the next level for any and all of your upcoming important meetings and public speaking opportunities.

I have an upcoming deadline (a talk I have to give, a job interview, a position for which I am a candidate). How early should I contact you to begin working together?

For most people the answer is NOW as too often we leave our preparation for important events to the last minute.

Here are a few ballpark estimates:

It usually takes upwards of eight sessions for you to write and feel fully prepared to give a talk from scratch.

It usually takes around four sessions to feel fully confident in a presentation or a job interview.

If you are being considered for an upcoming role and would like to shift the way that you are coming across to colleagues at work it usually takes three months to develop new habits.

If you have something coming up right around the corner I can do individual intensive sessions. Please reach out to see if this is available.

What does a normal session look like?

An average session starts with us checking in. How did the week go? What felt different? What challenges came up? Our sessions are always a dialogue.

Then we take some time to learn new practices based on your feedback and what you learned last week.

I then assign you homework for the following week.

Change comes from daily, repeated practice. So 'homework' is a key part of the curriculum and ensuring that the work that we do “sticks.” Read what past clients have said about the benefits our our work together.

How are you able to teach these skills remotely?

I find that clients tend to 'perform' for me in person and this hinders our progress. Clients end up being 'good students' during our sessions, but their training doesn't translate as well to their day to day lives. By working in the privacy of your own space, you will be able to more easily translate the tools that you learn to the challenges that you face on a daily basis.

Do you offer workshops and coaching for companies as well?

Yes. Please contact me and we can discuss your specific needs.
